Shore Road Reserve
Project: Shore Road Reserve Upgrade
Client: Auckland Council
Timeframe: 2014 - 2015
SSDM worked alongside Auckland Council, Andrew Stewart Ltd ( now 4sight consulting) and Stevenson & Turner in providing the design for the upgrade of the two aging sand carpet sports fields, cricket nets and natural cricket block at Shore Road Reserve, Remuera.
The site had known contamination issues that needed thorough testing and identification prior to works which also influenced the design in regards to cut/fill and reshaping planning. The reserve is located adjacent to a tidal waterbody and with stromwater and potential flooding issues, required creative design to allow for positive drainage, connecting into the existing public storm water infrastructure that would flood during each high tide.
Two sand carpet sports fields and a single platform for potential future development were created on the site which previously only had two old sand carpet fields. A new 'five-strip' Patumahoe clay cricket block and two artificial cricket pitches were installed. New relocatable lighting, kerb and channel along the car park and a new seven-bay cricket practice net facility were also installed.
Construction started in early 2015 and opened up for use in December 2015.
